Little Rascal

Summer is falling away...I saw it today in all the yellow and brown that seemed washed over everything.  There was mist up at Tilden even though we were there at midday.  The children played outside and picked cherry tomatoes and the squash plants are all covered with powdery bloom.  Drooping.  I lit a candle and it seemed to do a little something this evening...brought a little glow.

So many sad and desperate stories are happening all around the world...terror, conflict, injustice...it's hard to read and listen and then try your very best to orient yourself toward God and a peaceable kingdom...just come already!  One of my favorite Ladysmith Black Mambazo songs is King of Kings and a lyric that is repeated over and over "Reveal yourself, reveal yourself, because we are directing to you forever Almighty"  In praying for peace there is no other way than to try to direct yourself to the Almighty as best as you can and hope some glimmer of hope or action is found there.

Taking Leave of a Friend

Taking Leave of a Friend

Blue mountains to the north of the walls,

White river winding about them;
Here we must make separation

And go out through a thousand miles of dead grass.

Mind like a floating white cloud,
Sunset like the parting of old acquaintances
Who bow over their clasped hands at a distance.
Our horses neigh to each other

as we are departing.

Rihaku, translated by Ezra Pound
